Turkey on Thanksgiving Day

Every fourth Thursday of November, America celebrate the Thanksgiving Day with Turkey and corn as always the prepared recipes on the table. I wondered why every time Thanksgiving Day is celebrated there is this Turkey and corn. The family and friends gathered together around the table and pray to God, thanking Him for the bounty, the blessing, the guidance and even many problems they have encountered and settled for the whole year. America is known for putting God first before everything else, as evident in their bills, in political campaign, in the words of the elected President and in combating wars and crises. The history behind the Thanksgiving Day could well explain this culture and the tradition that had been handed down from generation to generation since that year 1620. Although the story of faith had long forgotten, the symbols of Turkey and corn would always remind the long journey of Christian brothers on this part of American land.

For a mouth watering turkey recipe you can have a delicious and different preparation at Good eat roast turkey or you can have this simple delicious home mom's turkey

For this year celebration America would need more faith to combat recession for the days ahead. The turkey would remind them that with concerted effort "yes America can" surpass crises.

Lunascape handles too much work

How do you like your window system to run a browser with triple engine? This is the latest news on web. Lunascape the world’s first triple-engine web browser. You might have experienced running a multiple engine in your windows, yet juggling on the browsers inconveniently takes so much of your precious time. But in Lunascape, it integrated the three main browsers rendering engines . You can have Internet Explorer which uses the Trident engine, the Gecko engine for Firefox and for Chrome is the Webkit. A user can switch to each browser optimal engine automatically.

Having read the feedback that Lunascape handles too much of the work, could entails drawbacks for taking in more features; it gets loaded and slow, the add-ons may well be open to security risks and your updates to the browser break compatibility with your favorites add-ons. Just how good the new browser enough to undermine these drawbacks, one has to try it and see.

The site says there are already 10 million downloads. I’m not one of them, I’m not convinced yet into trying a new tech while I’m still enjoying my present browser.

Tips on Getting the Most Through Shopping Wise this Christmas

We maybe constraint to shopping now these days than we normally do during Christmas season due to limited money we have on hand, as recession continue to be felt globally. But since it’s Christmas time, we can’t evade from spending, one thing is the tradition of Christmas encourages giving. The good thing about Christmas season, there are lots of sale coming in, “Christmas sale” “Clearance Sale” “Anniversary Sale” , “Garage Sale” .and other which normally sprout during this season in order to beat competition. We should take chance of getting the most through shopping wise this Christmas

1. Buy in bulk - You think you can save by buying in retail but in reality, you spend more when you buy the small size sachet than buying the big size. If you look at the content measurement and compare the price of the small size to big size that doubles the content, you’ll notice that there is only a slight increase in price rather than doubles it.

2. Avail the promos - During this season there are lots of promos in the supermarket. You can find some grocery items bound in 6 or 12 pieces with free additional or promo item attached to it. In some cases these free items are new products which is on the introductory phase given as sample to find it’s way in the market.

3. Find sales item - For this holiday season, there are lots of supermarket and stalls putting up “sales tag” in order to move out those unsold items and with cut down on its prices, they expect to move them out faster . There are also good items you can find in those products running under “sales” line. Usually those products on sales are those with broken sizes, surplus, outmoded and with factory defect. But it is lot better than the second hand item. In buying shoes I usually find my size on those broken sizes or if not in children shoes, ah, my woes in having a small size feet. I do save a lot from those “sales” items like kitchen and dining wares, bags, shoes, clothes, toys, personal accessories and eye glasses

4. Don’t concentrate on branded items – Though branded items are lot safer and reliable they command a staggering price which seems unreasonable especially when you are in a tight budget. There are lots of unbranded items which are also reliable, with good design and remarkably low-priced product. There are people who buy branded items for purpose of a show that’s why some business man are tempted to produce an imitated products in much lower prices. But I won’t advice anyone to patronize the fake one; you are not really saving your money from buying them. Usually the fake one contains a harmful ingredients and did not pass the government standard. Those imitated products carry other names but the design has similarity to the brand they are copying. Sometimes this product spells durability to some extent, it is only base on how careful you handle and use the product. They have license to manufacture and passed the government standard.

5. Spot for good bargain – The larger portion of the consumer nowadays are bargain conscious, Bargain are sold on a very low prices. These bargain items are usually of low-quality with absence of strict standard and were done in mass production. These products are usually sold in bargain center. On the other hand, the department stores are posting for some bargain items which are quality but just the same they pass it to bargain to easily dispose them, only with slight damages like unstitched portion, stained part, one screw missing and other similar defects. I was able to spot a good bargain item three years ago, it’s a wall clock and its working until now.

6. Take the free stuff offering– When you go to mall you’ll find a lot of free stuff, a sales clerk standing at the entrance of the stall offering free stuff or inside supermarket inviting you for a free taste. With lots of free taste I encountered I was able to free my snack for the day.

These are only few tips to remind you that we have to be wise in handling finances especially during this global economic downturn. If there are some other tips which I have not taken up you can share them in the comment box.

Christmas celebration unfazed by economic recession

People in Christian countries have started kindling the Christmas lights in their front gate, big and expensive lanterns are displayed on main street, Christmas tree and other decors are sprawling every homes. Stores are flooded with Christmas stuffs. Christmas celebration seem unfazed by economic recession where people are swarming the malls and market stalls for Christmas goodies and gifts for their family and loved ones. This is also the chance for stall owners to pick-up sales, though they are aware that influx of consumers were reportedly diminished compared to last year’s report of the same month.

The consumers scamper mostly to bargain center than in big malls. Early this month, Divisoria the popular bargain center in Binondo, Manila started to be jam-packed with people. Since most bonuses are given during the 2nd week of November, the streets of Divisoria becomes noticeably swelled with consumers and sidewalk vendor alike this latter part of the month. This greatly differ from the record last Christmas and every year, that there were already ample number of buyers roaming the Divisoria mall as early as October.

It seems that no amount of recession can hinder the Christmas celebration as always been the tradition in Christian countries. But this Christmas spending could also be a preparation for stronger storm that maybe lashing the economy next year; that despite economic recession, the people are trying to catch-up for the bargain before the year end.

Rich Dad Poor Dad- Gloria Diaz recommended book

Gloria Diaz, 1969 Philippine’s first Miss Universe, pick the Rich Dad Poor Dad book of Robert T. Kiyosaki and Sharon Lechter as her recommended book for the best reading material at this economic downturn. Gloria Diaz is the daughter of successful Filipino businessman.

She eyes on frugality in the book and business know-how. Cautioning people on spending money on credit and getting into business with no knowledge at all.

The book she says applies the warrior philosophy in conquering the challenges in business and life.

The Rich Dad Poor Dad was the author’s best selling book in 2000. The book reveals the secret of the rich in managing business and money. It strongly suggest to concentrate on buying those with income-generating assets. The book also picture the many advances of having a business mind over an employees mind-set. With the increasing number of lay offs worldwide, reading useful material such as this could suggest valuable pointers to overcome economic crises.

HP sees in best position above other pc makers to weather recession

To mention about the explicit analysis for pc makers performances during this turbulent times, the HP is seen to be in best position to weather the economic recession.

The dwindling in sales and waning demands for pc are already being felt in overly saturated market in North America and Europe. The Intel’s warning of the significant drop in demand for its chips is giving cue that worst is yet to come. So how’s these five biggest pc makers; the HP, Dell, Acer, Lenovo and Toshiba companies sustain their share of the market during the recession?

Company management are taking into account two things; the increase in low priced-conscious consumers and the company’s constraint budget for product development.

Having a diversified product like HP which third of its business comes from software, services, and enterprise storage, another part is derived from selling PCs and consumer devices and the rest comes from its printing business and other investments. Also with well distributed consumer from small, medium and large enterprises using the laptops, desktops, servers, storage and printers and its widening presence in all major markets with high demands for PCs in Latin America, Central and Eastern Europe and the Middle East. All these do summed-up to the right combination of products that will surely attract consumers during this economic recession.

Just weeks ago HP announced that it was cutting down the price of Envy 133 notebook from $2,100 to $1,800. Also it has released its full lineup of Netbooks, or smaller, lightly featured laptops for between $400 and $700. Attractive prices such as these could help HP brace its brand for the coming storm.

A cover letter or usually call it as application letter is normally attached to resume that you send to your target employer. It is your first phase of communication when landing for a sure job and should therefore entails a proper skill and thorough review before sending it out to the prospective company. Just like any other formal or business letter a cover letter is compose of:

Header - This is where you indicate the date you made the letter, sender’s address, the recipient’s contact information that may include optional reference (ex. “RE: Employment Program at Opportune Company”) and an optional transmission note (ex. “Via Email to job@example.info”). The final part of the header is a salutation (e.g. “Dear Human Resource Manager”)

Introduction - An introduction is the first paragraph of your letter. It should be brief and concise. It is where you state the type of position you desire and the source of information where you heard or read about the potential position

If somebody referred you to the position, you should mention the name of the person.

Taking the time for the applicant to research on the company’s product and its status in the business field could earn him the points as a prospective candidate for the position. That would give him the impression that he is thoroughly doing his homework and appear to be a “doer” person. He should be enthusiastic enough to mention them in the first paragraph

-I have known your company as having the most competitive product, an achiever in the marketing field for almost twenty years. As such, I am much delighted to be part of your company’s strategy.

Body of the letter – this is where you mention your good qualities, your achievement and skills, your overall competitive points that highlights your potential qualities suitable for the position you are applying for. The tone here should mark with confidence but with humble assurance that you can carry the work of the position you are required to handle. If needs be, enumerate those achievement you had in your previous job or if you are newly graduate mentioned those achievement you had in the school organization you belong. If you are newly graduate and nothing to prove yet state your openness to ideas and willingness to handle responsibilities. Refer your reader to your resume but don’t repeat what is written there.

Closing paragraph.

After you impressed your reader of your competitive qualities, Indicate your enthusiasm to set a schedule for an interview. In most cases when the need for the position is urgent and applicant has able to impress the company, he could readily received an e-mail or phone call for an interview. But in some instances when there are thousands of applicants who responded to the company’s job hiring, if might need to follow-up his application through phone call just to get feedback on the status of his letter.

Proofread and review your letter

Proofreading and a thorough review of your letter is a must before you finally send it out to your prospective employer. Check for spelling, grammar, punctuations and sentence construction. There should be no erasures.

Shopping the internet for Christmas

The tradition of sending presence to family and friends by those working abroad is never vanished in Filipino traits. With this Christmas coming, the children are already awaiting the Christmas presence from their dad working abroad. Shopping the internet for nice gadget and tech items for kids is lot practical nowadays than go shopping at the mall. My friend’s son has found this amazing shopping directory , Shopwiki which has vast collection of merchandise from big items like refrigerator to tiny bottle of perfume. But the kid is more delighted to scrutinize the xbox 360 consoles where he could play his favorite halo and Project Gotham racing video games. Then chat about xbox with his dad to give him a hint what he wants for Christmas.

Video games is becoming a delectable fads among kids and even for grown-ups. There are variety of these video games gadgets in the internet shop store. What makes it convenient shopping in the internet is having free and longer time of scrutinizing, and reviewing the product with less effort of going through the website than travel the distance to the mall.

Unlike any other shopping directory that includes only those sites that paid for placement, the Shopwiki.com is just like google that crawl every stores it finds in the internet.

Overseas Filipino Workers not affected by Economic Slump

I checked on my relatives and friends who work abroad, luckily their working situation is favorably stable. Overseas Filipino Workers are not affected by economic slump. The continued recession experiencing in America and Europe has given rise to massive unemployment. A report says that an estimated 15,000 workers are being laid off almost everyday. The economic recession somehow causes a domino effect on their trading partners, In Philippines for instance, the exporting companies have cut down on employees due to a slash on exportation. The OFW (Overseas Filipino Workers) who considered as the modern day heroes of the land, once again proved their heroic deed of salvaging the country from economic slump.

OFW are deployed in all parts of the world, they work hard in exchange for dollars. They are compelled to leave their families due to scarcity of employment in the country. The country is exporting wide manpower to the world, from menial job such as domestic helper to skilled workers; the technicians, repairmen, carpenters, drivers, cooks, sewers, to entertainers like singers, musicians, dance instructors and also our highly professionals like, nurses, teachers, auditors and doctors. A lot of them have earned a good reputation abroad. They could provide a decent living for their family back home and most importantly, they increased the dollar reserves of the country.

I received a feedback on how OFW fare with other foreign workers; they tag Filipinos as “smart worker”. Probably, because Filipinos are hardworking, dedicated and easily adapted to any situation. That makes them the much sought workers around the world. The proof, job agencies continued to recruit OFW for diverse positions. But also warn them of illegal recruiters because they are vulnerable to such kind. To those Filipinos seeking jobs, check this out for your work abroad

Two Filipino Students ecstatic over Obama's oath taking invitation

They can’t really believed it, the two Filipino students were ecstatic over Obama’s oath taking invitation in January 20, 2009.

Now college freshmen Paul Michael Thomas Cruz, 19 and Anna Marie Liwanag, 18 were selected for the honor by the University Presidential Inaugural Conference (UPIC) for their exemplary performance during the Global Young Leaders Conference (GYLC) held in June 2007 in Washington and New York while they were still high school seniors as a representatives of their alma mater, the Reedley International School in Pasig City.

Actually they received the invitation on March this year to the oath taking of the 44th President of the United States of America. Now they will be part of the historic inauguration. However, the travel expenses will be accounted to them, Anna Marie says she has to raise around $4,000.00 for UPIC fees and travel expenses. Now she is busy at soliciting sponsors. The UPIC website said that charged for its program covers the cost of events and activities, hotel accommodation for four nights, meals and transportation during the conference, hotel tips and taxes and group insurance.

Emil Ong, the president of Reedley International schools said, the invitation letter was made on behalf of members of the US Congress, particularly the Honorary Congressional Board of Advisors. According to the news the letter further read;

As inaugural scholars, Liwanag and Cruz will be part of a five-day series of special events and activities commemorating the inauguration of the US president and vice –president

The students will join other invited participants at the National Mall in the morning of Jan. 20 and experience firsthand the grandeur of the inaugural parade and presidential motorcade that will take the new US leader from the Capitol Building to the White House”

Tips on the Practical Way of Getting out of Debt

Many who have been used to unrestrained spending during their heydays may have caught them off-guard on this global financial meltdown.
If you have been one of those who have been hit by sudden financial plunge, loss a job while in the midst of paying miscellaneous debts, in whatever ways this is not your time to brood or panic. Take inspiration from Pres. Obama, “yes we can.” There are ways to set things straight especially on your mishandling of finances. Usually the causes of debt overload is the unrestrained spending or lavish lifestyle

1. The first thing to focus on is to cut on your lavish spending. Learn the way to frugality, go back to simple living and cut on those extra consumption of electricity, gases and unessential shopping

2. Look for extra job or source of income, your meager earning can patch up some of your monthly billings. Employ yourself, offer your services for a fee you maybe good at ; fixing computer, carpentry, gardening, networking, painting, cooking and others

3. Evaluate your debts and make plans to repay your creditors. The best advisable way is to start paying off creditors which has a highest interest rate, or pay those small debts first. If need be, negotiate with your creditors about lowering the interest rate. Talk to them your situation and decide on your convenient terms of paying them. Pay your debts with cash don’t start up another debt to pay off your outstanding debts, this is unhealthy and you could end up piling debts after debts. Make a computation of all your debts and determine of paying them to go with your regular monthly billings.

4. This is your time to decide; stop using your credit cards by all means avoid spending or buying things on credits.

5. If you are still out of cash, sell your stuff and those valuable things which you can do without.

Yes We Can - the new creed by Obama for American people

Jubilation is the mark of the day as American people celebrated with high spirit the victory of Barack Obama as duly elected President of the United States of America. Making this election historical as having first Black American president, one who will curve the history of change for citizens of America. The people gearing for a change and the line that will guide them to do it is- Yes We Can, the new creed by Obama for American people.

There is one thing I learn from this election that America has proven it once more that democratic ideals is really working in their land, a government which is of the people, for the people and by the people. I salute their leaders, they have been sport as ever who graciously accept victory for the winner and likewise humbly accept defeat for the loser.
Then both are hopeful to start working together for the common good of the citizenry regardless of the political party they belong.

The election proceedings, have been remarkably peaceful though the just concluded election was described as the hottest election ever in the history of America. I hope and pray that America’s sought for a change will be achieved in the shortest possible time. For I believe as what their new creed says, “yes we can” As citizen of Asia, we also look forward to maintaining a strong leadership of this world powerful nation.

Hurray to Price roll-back of LPG

I just watched the tv news tonight and the good news is, Petron Corp. and Pilipinas Shell Petroleum Corp. has cut its price of 11-kilogram cylinder tank by P1.50/kg starting tonight. If you remember the price of LPG cylinder last August varied at P631.00-P689.50 per 11 kg. tank. Good thing our gas in tank is about to deplete this November. The cut in prices of LPG was the result of the decline in prices of oil in the international market. It is further expected according to Dept. of Energy that a bigger cut-in prices of LPG is expected to take effect once the purchased oil from abroad reaches Philippine soil by December. So the celebration of Christmas and New Year will be a bit lighter on the pocket since there would be a lot of kitchen activities during the season.

Also expected to follow is the roll-back in transportation fare for jeepneys with a cut of P0.50 on the minimum fare. Another good news is the refund on Meralco installation deposit which will commence this November but shall be on varied schedule for each one, so when you go to their office to pay your electric bill ask also the schedule date of your refund.
